The Federal Communications Commision recently closed bidding on an airwaves auction featuring a proposed nationwide emergency communications network. Enthusiasm was tempered by doubts regarding the future of the plan and the minimum bid of the auction was not reached as a result.

This national effort to secure communication highlights a growing concern among first responders over inadequate communications interoperability. What communication issues have you encountered in your area? What protocols and proceudres have your service put into place to communicate with different agencies in different jurisdictions?
